2024 WASSCE Update: Nigeria’s Results are to be released on August 5th as Ghana Kicks Off Exams on the same day

The 2024 WASSCE for school candidates has become the focal point in both Ghana and Nigeria, with both countries sharing August 5 as a significant date. While students in Nigeria will be expecting their results of the examination to be released on August 5th, 2024, their counterparts in Ghana will be starting the same examination on the same day.

WASSCE candidates in Nigeria will be required to check their WASSCE results on the official result portal  https://www.waecdirect.org/ 

The candidates must acquire the result-checking voucher or pin to successfully check their results online on mobile devices or computers. Candidates are advised to check the results on computers, especially when the traffic to the result portal is high and the internet network is weak. Due to the traffic (visits) to the site when the results are officially released, it is always best to check the results late in the night or early in the morning.

The difference in the exam date was the result of COVID-19, which made Ghana start writing the examination meant for the five member states on a date different from Nigeria and the other countries. The case of Ghana has led to many describing the Ghana-only WASSCE as not fit enough to be called WASSCE but rather a Ghana exam.

The WASSCE for school candidates, if passed, offers students an opportunity to be admitted into various local and foreign universities.

Candidates in Ghana will start the exam with practicals on August 5th; however, the written aspect of the exam will take place on August 26th with the English Language (Oral Paper). The English Language (Oral Paper) always ushers candidates into the main examination mood in Ghana

With Nigeria’s 2024 WASSCE results out on August 5th, Ghana starts the exam the same day, Ghana will need to work on its current academic calendar to ensure it joins the other West African countries to write a uniform examination.

Ghanaian students should note that WAEC will apply all its new and old examination rules. A special mention needs to be made of the use of exam leaking syndicates, entering the examination hall with foreign materials and mobile devices, and the use of AI to generate answers. Any involvement in examination leakage and cheating will lead to serious problems for candidates.
