With the new curriculum, Home Economics students will learn a maximum of 11 subjects from year 1 to 3 before writing their exit examination, or WASSCE.
What are the New SHS1 Learning Area Subjects For Home Economics?
The subjects to be studied have been classified under four sub categories. Below are the categories and subjects to study to choose from. Let us take a look at the New SHS1 Learning Area Subjects For Home Economics.
LEARNING AREA FIVE: HOME ECONOMICS
GROUP A (CORE): For every learner who has selected home economics as their learning area, the subjects below are mandatory. The core subjects are compulsory across all programmes offered in each school. All student will study these subjects through their study and will be accessed on them except for Physical education.

2.SOCIAL STUDIES
3.ENGLISH LANGUAGE
4.GENERAL SCIENCE
5.PEH(Core but not externally examined)
GROUP B (HOME ECONOMICS ELECTIVES)
Each learner must do a MINIMUM OF TWO & MAXIMUM OF FOUR of the subjects below.
EACH LEARNER MUST DO THE FF:

AND ONE, TWO OR THREE OF THE FF:
1.BIOLOGY
2.DESIGN & COMM. TECH.

Parents and candidates are to note that, the combination of courses from Categories A,B,C and D available in a school will be determined by the school. A student will not have the chance of offering a particulat subject if the school he or she is placed in does not offer it as part of its selected subjects for the programme.
