The saying “If you dream it, believe it, and you will achieve it” is not for lazy minds but for self-inspired individuals like Mrs. Rosemond Awuku, a mother of three who completed SHS this year.
She was part of the just-ended 2024 WASSCE for school candidates. Although she was married or a wife with three boys to take care of, the tough responsibilities that come with being a mother did not hold her back.
Mother of three completes Free SHS: The Sad and Heartwarming Story Behind Her Success
In an interview she granted Ghana News Agency (GNA), she disclosed that the WASSCE and the Free SHS she has enjoyed would help her to further her education to the tertiary level and beyond.
Clearly, she is self-motivated and would not be stopped by her age or anything that will want to derail her efforts to reach the top through her academic pursuit.
Mrs. Rosemond Awuku, the mother of three who just completed SHS, has indeed set a new record.
Her sad story should inspire anyone in the state she was in growing up. According to her, her dad was a rich man, but he vowed not to invest in her education.
“My father was very rich but vowed not to sponsor a girl child through education but was ready to give her out for marriage,” she said while granting GNA the interview.
She disclosed that she was forced to drop out of school even though she was a brilliant student. She was finally pushed into marriage later by her father.
This did not in any way quench her thirst for education, knowing that it could unlock her full potential and opportunities.
She took a step of faith and challenged herself by going back to school. In fact, she sacrificed her beautiful long hair by barbering it to get back into the classroom.
She had no option then than to start all over from junior high school, which gave her the rare chance of writing the junior high school (JHS) level three re-sit exams as a Basic Education Certificate Examination (BECE) candidate in 2021.
According to her, junior high school was stressful for her since she had to combine her studies with managing her home and business.
Mrs. Rosemond Awuku added that at the JHS, the students were scared of her. “The children were scared of me, so I had to come down to their level.” She stated.
God was on her side; she obtained aggregate 11 at the BECE, and when school placements were released, she was placed in the Armed Forces Senior High School in Kumasi, where she studied Agricultural Science.
“Imagine me living in Sehwi in the Western North Region and gaining admission to study in Kumasi.
I have an ambition to attain a higher education, so I took my children to my grandmother and came to school,” she stated.
She has recounted the challenges that came with her decision to pursue education after marriage.

This included how her children were nearly introduced to weed smoking by their uncle.
Having completed SHS as an agricultural student, she thanked God and her family for the support offered her. She expressed how excited she was with her success and aims to gain admission into Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology for her tertiary education.
With agricultural studies being an important program where many women who pursue it gain scholarships, Education-News Consult hopes both local and international universities provide Mrs. Rosemond Awuku with the needed support to further her education in the field of agriculture and/or related programs.
Mrs. Rosemond Awuku was identified as being part of the top 5 in her class, made up of 56 students.
This rare Mother of three completes SHS should inspire all the young and old to chase their dreams in life.
