Since the release of the 2024 BECE results, I have received countless questions from schools and teachers as to how to prepare 2025 BECE candidates for better grades. We must address this question and implement ideas to enhance the candidates’ readiness. If schools want to maximize their efforts and students, they should adopt an early bird approach instead of relying on last-minute strategies.
As an English and Social Studies teacher, I have implemented strategies that have proven beneficial to my students in the past. Before the start of the term. I set objective and subjective questions on a topical basis and print them out for my students. As a result, each student has a copy of the questions, separate from the ones I have pasted in the classroom at all four corners. When I have a test, class work, or home work, all I do is pick up my copy of the questions and refer the students to the question number. This way, since the students know they will be tested on all the questions, they also naturally become smart and proactive by learning ahead of the teacher.
This made lessons, especially in social studies and English composition, interesting and engaging. In the end, the students appreciate the proactive questions and work hard to get them ahead of the next topic or lesson. This is one thing teachers can do to help them. You can implement the same strategy on a monthly basis.
If basic schools with students in Basic 9 want to get the best out of their learners, this post on 2025 BECE and what schools, teachers, and Basic 9 learners should be doing from now on must engage the attention of all stakeholders.
WAEC’s administration of the 2024 BECE, which followed the new common core curriculum, exposed the lack of preparedness among candidates, schools, parents, and teachers. For instance, the exam preparation you provided to a final-year student in 2022 and 2023, as well as your teaching methods and question-answering skills, need to change.
The outdated method of preparing BECE candidates no longer helps students achieve the highest grades, and the 2024 BECE has served as a valuable case study for all of us.

How can we prepare 2025 BECE candidates for better grades?
- Use mock questions and answers from Education-News Consult to prepare your candidates for better performance.
- Use NaCCA/WAEC question formats from now on. This will train your learners.
- Do not close your eyes to small mistakes and award marks. If you do this, your learners will be extra careful, and they will do the right thing all the time.
- Teach your students how to answer application questions by helping them with questions and answer guides.
- Encourage and facilitate easy-to-read and better handwriting in all classes, homemocks, and assignments.
- Give extra assignments to students who break school rules to ensure they get the best from themselves each time they mess up in school.
- Teach students how to answer critical thinking questions. This will help them learn how to approach such questions.
- Teach students how to read and understand NACCA/WAEC types of questions.
- Teacher question-answering skills. There are students who know the answers but do not know how to respond to questions.
- Develop a vocabulary bank on each topic for your students. When students master these words in terms of spelling and their usage, they can easily answer questions with them. You can also use these words for unannounced dictation before or just after a lesson to keep students on their toes.
- Provide students with notes in the form of questions and answers on various topics. This demands dedication from a teacher who wants learners to excel.
- Teach students how to answer and choose correct objective test answers. Teach them how to eliminate wrong answers so they can increase the chance of making the right choices.
- Teach your students how to write concise, self-explanatory responses and how to stop writing answers with fewer than 10 words when the mark is 2 or higher.
- Teach your students how to answer questions without poor grammar and spelling by educating them on the importance of reading through their answers before submitting.
- Leach students why they must not recopy questions before answering and why they must number answers correctly with the question number that corresponds with the question they are answering.
- Education-News Consult provides the best BECE mock questions for homes and schools, ensuring your candidates excel.
