There seems to be 2024 BECE Results Controversy after the release of the BECE result. Each year WAEC releases the BECE results, candidates are always disappointed and they make worrying pronouncements that suggest that they have been marked down or shot changed. However, WAEC continues to fairly mark scripts. While others are complaining several students also excelled in the same examination.
From “I want re-marking”, WAEC has been wicked to us, I am disappointed, I am briliiant and I know what I wrote, This is not my score are just a few of the statments students have made and always make when the BECE results are released.
The 2024 BECE results released has come with so much complaints from candidates, teachers, schools and parents who do not believe the grades match the academic brilliance of their learners.
The release of this year’s BECE (Basic Education Certificate Examination) results has left many students, parents, and teachers scratching their heads. The general feeling? Frustration, confusion, and disappointment. Across various subjects, especially where candidates felt confident, there’s disbelief at the grades received. For many, the burning question is, “How did I get this result?”
Take the case of one particularly upset student:
“I really don’t get it! When I saw my results, I was like, ‘What on earth is this?’ I know what I wrote, and I know I did well. But what kind of results are these? Seriously, they didn’t try for us at all.”
Parents are also echoing these sentiments. One mother shared her concerns:
“This year’s results are terrible. My daughter’s results don’t match what she’s been doing in school. It’s like something went wrong somewhere.”
It’s not just individual subjects that have raised eyebrows, but also situations where results are still pending. A student from Anamase D/A JHS in the Eastern Region expressed confusion over the delayed results for Creative Arts and Design:
“Sir, some of us have our results mixed up with others. And Creative Arts is still pending? I know my ward is good in that subject, but there’s no result yet. Why?”
Why Are Some Results Pending?
The 2024 BECE Results Controversy is really worrying stakeholders and the silence of GES, and WAEC on the pending result is making things worse.
Students and parents alike are puzzled over why some subjects, particularly Creative Arts and Design, haven’t been released. While some results are out, others are mysteriously missing. This has fueled speculation about possible errors in the grading process.
One concerned parent from the Achiase District put it this way:
“I don’t get it. How can there be no result for a subject my child is good at? It doesn’t add up. WAEC needs to be transparent about what’s going on.”
A disappointed student also chimed in:
“What I got isn’t what I deserve. I worked hard, and these grades don’t reflect my effort. WAEC, please look into this and give us the correct results.”
Calls for Regrading
As disappointment grows, many are calling for WAEC to review the results. Some teachers and students suspect that this year’s marking scheme was unusually harsh or inconsistent, leading to unexpected failures in subjects that students typically excel in.
“I honestly think they used a different marking scheme this year. A lot of students failed when they should have passed. Can you believe I got a 1 in English and Social Studies but ended up with a 3 in Mathematics and a 4 in English? It’s so frustrating!” said one student.
For students who expected better outcomes, the possibility of a regrading process is something they’re hoping for.
What’s Next for WAEC?
Despite the rising frustrations, WAEC has yet to offer a detailed explanation for the pending results or perceived inconsistencies. The lack of communication only adds to the anxiety and anger felt by students and their families.
“The inconsistencies in our education system are becoming unbearable. How can they rush to release incomplete results? It’s just not right,” one parent lamented.
As the calls for transparency grow louder, it’s becoming increasingly clear that WAEC needs to take action. Whether that means regrading papers, offering explanations for delays, or simply providing clearer communication, something needs to be done to restore trust.

Final Thoughts on the supposed 2024 BECE Results Controversy
At the heart of the BECE controversy is a widespread feeling of injustice. Students, parents, and teachers all want the same thing: fairness. And while emotions are running high, what’s ultimately needed is a reliable assessment system that reflects the hard work students put in.
For now, students wait and hope that WAEC will respond to their calls for clarity and fairness. As one student put it:
“WAEC, please, go for remarks. This is not my result. God, have mercy on us all.”
Let’s hope that the examination body takes these concerns seriously and acts swiftly to ensure fairness in the process. After all, the future of Ghana’s students depends on it.
