WAEC has shockingly revealed the damming cheating that went on during the 2024 WASSCE for school candidates. According to WAEC’s latest update on the just-ended WASSCE, some schools had the guts to, with the aid of projectors, project WASSCE exam answers on boards for their candidates to copy.
While it is not clear why WAEC has not named and shamed such examination centres and schools that engaged in the practice, it is also not clear why WAEC did not provide these details while the examination was going on.
In the latest press release, WAEC disclosed that candidates and schools caught cheating in the exam will be dealt with. It listed six different ways through which cheating was carried out.
While some students sneaked in photocopies of answers to questions, others hid foreign materials in their uniforms. Some candidates and teachers went to the extent of smuggling mobile phones into the examination hall to enable copy answers sent to such phones via social media.
In some schools or examination centres, the answers to questions were boldly written on boards for candidates to copy for WAEC.
In some instances, mobile phones were used to take snapshots of questions, which were then shared on social media.
