Since the release of the 2024 BECE results on Saturday, October 19, 2024, most students have seen Creative Arts and Design results Pending (P). Many students are not only confused, but they also don’t understand what the (P) means.
Why is 2024 BECE Creative Arts And Design Results Pending (P) And What The Public Is Saying?
The WAEC assigns grades from 1 to 9 and does not assign a “P” grade for the BECE. The “P” grade has nothing to do with a pass.
Often “P” refers to pending. This can mean one of the following, according to the sampled views expressed by the public
It is possible that the students with “P” may have engaged in some form of BECE exam malpractice; therefore, WAEC has not yet determined their fate. If there was some form of cheating and the answers provided by students look so similar, WAEC can put such results on hold pending its final investigations.
This could potentially indicate that WAEC has not yet uploaded the results for the subject. If that is the case, why should WAEC be in a hurry to release results? How will these students calculate their actual exam aggregate, particularly if they performed well in the subject but have not yet received their results?
When WAEC released the 2024 BECE results, it did not explicitly state that it had not yet released the results for Creative Arts and Design for the candidates. Therefore, the assumption that WAEC has not yet uploaded the aforementioned results may not be accurate.
Another source informed Education-News Consult that the Creative Arts subject remains pending for all candidates, as it’s their first time writing it. “It should also be noted that this is the first time BECE candidates have written the Carear Technology subject, but it has already been released.” If this is indeed the case, WAEC should demonstrate greater professionalism by disclosing this information in the press release announcing the BECE results. It failed to do that. Given that Creative Arts and Designer teachers serve as examiners, the marking of the subject should not pose any issues.
WAEC always uses “P” for Pending when the results of a subject are questionable.
We hope that WAEC will formally release new information and an update that differs from the above interpretations.
Another intel showed that the marking scheme provided for marking the 2024 BECE Creative Arts and Design was not the best, and so the delay.
If it stands that there was some form of cheating, WAEC may invite such students and their parents to meet its investigation team to help them make a final decision on the matter.
However, WAEC and GES have not released any official statements on the matter.
The most accurate reasons for the pending results so far…
Sir Albert provided this addtional useful update.. “Pending results has nothing to do with examination malpractice. Pending results happen when maybe due inaccurate candidates registration details or just as you were updated by someone saying it’s because this is the first time writing CAD as subject. Only withheld results have issue with WAEC”
Since WAEC never made any pronouncement that it is yet to upload the results of the Creative Arts and Design subject, it is highly possible that such students are being investigated for cheating in the 2024 BECE for the subject in question.

Our questions to WAEC and GES are as follows:
- Why is 2024 BECE Creative Arts and Design Results Pending (P)?
- Will the Creative Arts and Design results be released before school placement, or will they not be released at all?
- Who bears the cost of an additional result checker per student to enable parents to check their ward results with already purchased checker cards (used three times already)?
This “P” remark is stressful for BECE graduates, schools, and parents.
Parent 1: Good morning, sir. From analysis and conversations with staff of other schools, the performance in the BECE is not the best. I have also heard that some examiners had not yet submitted their marked scripts, but results were still released. What is really going on . The candidates are heartbroken due to the results. Our suspicion is that they rushed the marking and didn’t do decent work. We’ve also heard that they used a different marking scheme, which was higher than the normal one.
Parent 2: We need to get our priorities right as a country. This is the first major examination for these young children and they have to go through this trauma due to someone’s ignorance? Why the rush to release the results if they were not ready?
These messages above from worried parents sum up the frustration across the country amongst BECE candidates and parents.
Parents may face additional financial burdens due to the result checker’s frequent use of only three checks. If a parent or student has already used their result checker three times, they will need to purchase a new one in case WAEC updates the results later.
