NEGOTIATED AGREEMENT AND ALLOWANCES FOR TEACHERS IN GES, 2024 TO 2026

1. Advance for teachers in GES (ie Salary Advance Loan)
This is a Salary Advance Loan paid to GES teachers without any interest. It is interest interest-free loan. A teacher can apply for this loan, up to an amount not exceeding 150℅ of his/her annual gross salary and it must be repaid within a period not more than 84 months ( ie equal installment payment for 84 months or 7 years).
How to apply?
Write an application letter and attach a cover letter from your head and send it to your IPPD Coordinator. It takes two to four weeks for the money to hit your bank account if only you meet all the requirements.
2. Permanent posting allowance
This is a type of allowance paid to an employee in GES for accepting reposting or transfer which was not requested by the teacher or employee him/herself.
Note that there are some other conditions attached before one can qualify. It’s normally given to those who are transferred from their station to a new station with a distance of at least 50 Kilometers.
The beneficiary employee will receive three (3) Months of his Basic Salary
3. Additional duty allowance
This is paid to an employee who has been given additional responsibility for a position other than his/her own. This additional responsibility must be more than 21 days but it should not be more than 6 months. The additional responsibility must be accompanied by an official appointment letter.
Example: A District Director is asked to take care of another District or SHS.
4. Allowance for Directors
This is a special allowance meant for some category of GES staff. Normally, from the Director and above. It is also called Category 4 allowances. It may include an entertainment allowance, fuel, utilities, housing or rent, security, etc.
Note that Directors are already enjoying these allowances.
5. Funeral Grant
This grant is paid on the death of:
 i) GES staff
ii) his/her spouse
iii) his/her child.
All teachers can apply if only you meet the requirements
6. Vehicle maintenance – This is paid monthly as follows:
   i ) Car – Ghc 210
ii) Motor- Ghc 70
iii) Bicycle Ghc 28
7. Traveling expenses
This is normally paid to the newly trained teacher or newly appointed staff of GES. This is not a new allowance.
8. Medical Care
   i) There is an approved rate for that.
50℅ of the cost of ailments not covered by NHIS.
ii) Employee’s spouse and 4 children 18 years and below should be covered by NHIS.
A child above 18 but below 23 years who is still in school is also covered by the medical scheme.
9. Night/ Out of station allowance
GES staff who travel on special or official duties and are required to spend the night away from home. It does not apply to all teachers.
10. Retention Premium
This allowance is paid to teachers as motivation to stay in work for a longer period. It’s calculated as 15℅ of the employee’s monthly basic Salary
11. Complimentary Digital Instructions Support Allowance
This is a new allowance geared towards assisting teachers to buy data bundles to do online research and to help teachers use some technological tools in their teaching, to achieve the digital literacy that the new curriculum seeks to achieve as core competence. The amount involved now is Ghc800 and it should be paid once every year. This year, it is expected to be paid in November 2024.
12. Continuous Professional Development Allowance (CPDA)
This is an allowance paid to teachers to ensure continuous professional development and training. It is paid once a year. This allowance has seen an upwards adjustment from *Ghc1200* to *Ghc2400*
For this year, it is expected to be paid in September 2024. That’s ending of this month.
In the past two years, the CPDA was paid in November but because of the introduction of a new allowance, ie Complimentary Instructions Support Allowance (ie Ghc800) which is earmarked to be paid in November, authorities decided to pay this year’s CPDA at the end of this month(ie September ending). We are however hearing some rumour that because of the quantum of the amount involved ie Ghc2400-200 = Ghc2200, govt wants to pay it in installments. We have not seen any official communication from govt to authenticate the information in circulation. That’s why I said it’s a rumour. I’m praying that it remains a rumour.

This is no news but an assault on the integrity and dignity of the teacher.
That teachers have received some Gh¢ 2000 cedis as an allowance in the month of September, so the whole world should hear and measure the teacher’s image in the light of that.
Where else does such nonsense happen but for the Ghana Education Service?
Teachers too have the right to privacy and decency.

This small amount which is not even equal to the allowance for fuel maintenance of an MP?? This is a gross disrespect to teachers. No teacher should jubilate on this.

Why don’t we hear the allowances of other services . Teachers are doing better than so many sectors here in Ghana but they receive more allowances on their payslip but the little you give to teachers you voice out to the public. Don’t we teachers deserve motivations. It’s high time you refrain from such bad habits. The people receiving the highest allowances has been disclosed. Damn Ghana
