Orphan with 8As Wins WAEC’s Best Student Award and GES Boss Scholarship

Orphan with 8As Wins WAEC's Best Student Award and GES Boss Scholarship

A brilliant but needy orphan, Akosua Adjei Boateng, secured a heavenly-ordained scholarship on the day of the WAEC Distinction Awards after her sad story gained popularity at the events. Dr. Eric Nkansah, the Director General of the Gana Education Service (GES), experienced a profound emotional response upon learning about the plight of the student who received an award at the event.

At the event, the public learned that the young lady, who received an award from WAEC, is still at home, despite achieving 8As in the WASSCE, due to her lack of parental support for her education as an orphan.

Her touching story and the current situation brought to her doorstep an offer from Dr. Eric Nkansah, who is ready to sponsor her education. As a result, she is free to choose any program at the university.

Akosua Adjei Boateng is a graduate of the Juaso Senior High Technical School, Juaso-Ashanti product. At the event, judges named her the overall best student in the technical programs.

Dr. Eric Nkansah responded to the news by saying that the fact that the student in question was also from Juaso, his hometown, touched him.

He was saddened to learn that Akosua, an orphan who had earned 8As, had been unable to continue her education at the tertiary level due to financial constraints.

During the program, the GES boss pledged to sponsor her tertiary education.

He also hosted Akosua and her family right after the ceremony, along with the Head of Juaso Senior High Technical School in Accra, to discuss the way forward for the brilliant young lady.

He added that he did not doubt that Akosua would excel in her tertiary education and that he was ready to be a part of it.

The sad plight of the orphan who bagged 8As and WAEC’s Overall Best Student Distinction Award is a testament that the government management schoalrshuops such as the get fund have failed to identify those who truly need them.

Below is his full pledge sighted from his official Facebook page.

I will be sponsoring Akosua’s tertiary education so she can study the course of her choice.

As a native of Juaso, I was proud to learn that Akosua Adjei Boateng, a former student of Juaso Senior High Technical School, Juaso-Ashanti, emerged as the overall best student in the Technical programme.

However, hearing that Akosua, an orphan, after securing 8As, has been unable to continue her education at the tertiary level due to financial constraints saddened me.

During the WAEC Distinction Awards last Wednesday, I pledged to sponsor her tertiary education. Later that day, I hosted Akosua, her immediate family, and the Head of Juaso Senior High Technical School in my office to understand her career choices and next steps further.

I am convinced Akosua will excel in her tertiary education, and I am humbled to be a part of it.
