John Dramani Mahama has challenged President Nana Addo and Vice President Dr. Bawumia to deal with Free SHS and its attended challenges, unposted teachers, and nurses.
Political Debate Between Mahama and Dr. Bawumia
Mahama further challenged Dr. Bawumia to debate unposted teachers and nurses, among others, and not him. John Mahama believes that Dr. Bawumia is not deserving of a debate, as he, John Mahama, is aware of his own limitations.
He stated categorically that Dr. Bawumia is losing the 2024 election and that he will not elevate Bawumia to his level. I know my level, he added.
He reminded Bawumia and Nana Addo of their refusal to debate him in 2016 and 2020, thereby eliminating the need to debate the NPP and Dr. Bawumia.
Mahama’s Stand in Free SHS
The NDC flag bearer further stated that he has made his position on Free SHS clear and called on the presidential staffers to play videos of him discussing his plans for Free SHS with the president.
According to John Mahama, the next NDC government will ensure that the current centralized feeding management system is decentralized. He went on to say that schools will receive direct funding, enabling them to purchase their own food supplies and guarantee the provision of wholesome and ample meals for students.
Change the Traliff Light-Free SHS
To avoid the current traffic light system that the Akuffo-Bawumia government is implementing, the next NDC government will hire more teachers and permit all Ghanaian children to arrive at school and leave at the same time.
Change the central feeding system.
Mahama further stated that he plans to transform the current centralized feeding system into a decentralized one, where head teachers will oversee procurement and feeding management at the school level, among other responsibilities. “The feeding money will go directly to their schools, and their schools will procure better-quality food for the children.” John Mahama stated.
Ghana goes to the polls on December 7th to elect a president and 275 members of parliament.
