The Ghana Education Service has directed all heads of public senior high schools to halt the SHS/SHST graduation ceremonies for public SHS graduates.
The graduation ceremonies are organised by schools for SHS3 students graduating after WASSCE examinations.
The letter from the GES partly read, “All Heads of Senior Schools (SHS/SHTS) to immediately halt all processes, including the collection of money, with regards to graduation ceremonies for SHS graduates.”
The new trend in school activities, though not new to private basic and senior high schools, is becoming a common practice in public senior high schools.
A letter purported to have emanated from the Ghana Education Service and signed by the Deputy Director General, Mr. Stephen Kwaku Owusu, on September 19, 2024, called on all Regional Directors of Education to update all districts, municipal, and metropolitan assemblies under their leadership of the new directive.
The GES further directed that heads should stop collecting money for such graduations and suspend all processes and plans aimed at organising graduation programs for graduating classes.
