Ghanaian teachers are among the best globally

The Director General (D-G) of the Ghana Education Service, Dr. Eric Nkansah, has singled out Ghanaian teachers as among the best globally. He also praised teachers in the country for their work and important contributions towards the attainment of educational outcomes.

He made these bold revelations about teachers in Ghana while speaking at the launch of the 2024 Ghana Teacher Prize.
The Ghana Teacher Prize awards offer the government, through the National Teaching Council (NTC), a rare opportunity to celebrate and award teaching and non-teaching staff in the education sector.
The 2024 award is under the theme “Celebrating Excellence: Valorizing Our Teachers. “The annual awards ceremony is organised to celebrate and honour our hard-working teachers and non-teaching staff of the Ghana Education Service,” Dr. Nkansah said while addressing the audience at the launch of the award.
He added that the awards also offer a rare opportunity to celebrate outstanding teachers of Ghanaian descent and recognise their contribution to the development of our nation.
According to him, the program further eliminates the significant roles of teachers as they nurture the future leaders of Ghana.
He identified the efforts of teachers that led to Ghanaian students attaining global success in international competitions.
Dr. Eric Nkansah reiterated the connection between the theme and the vision of governments to birth a 21st century education system in the country. The 21st century education system will bring about improved learning outcomes for the benefit of all Ghanaian children of school-going age.
He echoed the need to prioritise the welfare of teachers as part of the integrated effort towards attaining the 21st century education system envisioned and making the teaching profession more attractive.
According to him, the GES has tackled basic issues relating to teacher upgrades, promotions, transfers, and teacher ID-related issues. The GES is leveraging technology to deal with the above basic challenges of the service.
The 2024 Ghana Teacher Prize is scheduled to be held in the Ashanti Region on October 5, 2024.
