The year 2024 saw the government of Ghana put together a total of 13 public holidays. As of September 15th, 2024, Ghanaians were yet to enjoy the final 4 public holidays in the year.
The first of the holidays enjoyed by Ghanaians was the New Year’s Day holiday, which fell on 1st January, 2024. The last day before September 15th was Founders’ Day, which fell on 4th August 2024 and was moved to 5th August.

The Final 4 Public Holidays for Ghanaians in 2024
Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day
The next holiday in Ghana is expected to be Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, which falls on his approved and publicly known date of birth. The holiday falls on 21st September 2024. Kwame Nkrumah was born on September 21, 1909. If he were alive in 2024, he would be 115 years old. This holiday will only be celebrated if it is declared. Expect a press release such as this: “The general public is hereby informed that Saturday, 21st September 2024, which marks Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Day, is a Statutory Public Holiday; however, since it falls on Saturday, the day shall be observed on Monday, 23rd September 2024, and should be observed as such throughout the country.
Farmer’s Day
Farmer’s Day is a special holiday on which Ghanaians honour gallant farmers no matter the size of their farms for their contribution to the food baskets of Ghanaians for local consumption and export, among others. The Farmer’s Day holiday is marked every first Friday of December each year. The hilody in 2024 falls on 6th December, a day before Ghanaians crutial elections on December 7th. It is not clear if the celebration will be held earlier than the 6th December date.
Christmas Day and Boxing Day
The last two statutory holidays will be celebrated on 25th and 26th December 2024, which happen to be Christmas Day and Boxing Day holidays, respectively.
