The Education-News Consult has sighted a detailed letter from the Ministry of Health to the Finance Ministry stating the entry-level salaries for the various ranks of nurses and midwives to be recruited from August 5, 2024. The stated salaries have been approved for the 15,200 yet-to-be-recruited health workers. The nurses to be recruited are those who completed their training in 2020. This suggests that the 2021, 2022, and 2023 batches will remain as a backlog of unemployed nurses.
The salary levels captured in the sighted letter cover the basic salaries of registered nurses, midwives, mental health nurses, community health nurses, and nursing assistants, among others.
A breakdown of the 15,200 nurses to be employed showed that the graduates are health graduates with degrees, diplomas, and certificates in the respective qualifications who were trained in recognized public and private health training institutions.
Those who will be posted are graduates who have met all requirements and are waiting for permanent posting. Those to be posted have been verified, validated, and submitted by the Nurses and Midwifery Council of Ghana.

Entry-level salaries for the various ranks are as follows:.
Registered General Nurses (RGN) totaling 3,876 will be recruited and placed on the 15H salary scale and will be paid a basic salary of GHS 3,577.19
Registered Midwife (RM) totaling 3,298 will be recruited and placed on the 15H salary scale and will be paid a basic salary of GHS 3,577.19.
Registered Mental Nurses (RMN) totaling 324 will be recruited and placed on the 15H salary scale and will be paid a basic salary of GHS 3,577.19
Registered Community Health Nurses (RCHN) totaling 1,163 will be recruited and placed on the 15H salary scale and will be paid a basic salary of GHS 3,577.19.
Nursing Officers (NO) totaling 909 will be recruited and placed on the 18L salary scale and will be paid a basic salary of GHS4,529.34.
Midwifery Officers (NO) totaling 217 will be recruited and placed on the 18L salary scale and will be paid a basic salary of GHS4,529.34.
Community Health Nursing Officers (CHNO) totaling 60 will be recruited and placed on the 18L salary scale and will be paid a basic salary of GHS4,529.34.
Nurses Assistant Clinical (NAC) totaling 3848 will be recruited and placed on the 12L salary scale and will be paid a basic salary of GHS 2,307.79.
Nurses Assistant Preventive (NAP) totaling 1505 will be recruited and placed on the 12L salary scale and will be paid a basic salary of GHS 2,307.79.
