The Education-News Consult wins the copyright violation war against Ghanaian teachers who upload the institution’s mock papers on Scribd and SlideShare without approval. An audit of the internet for potential copyright violations revealed countless mock papers of the consultium were uploaded by teachers and other individuals in Ghana on the two sites either to build their online portfolios on such sites or to help them access other materials on the said sites.
While educators and schools can use our mocks in their possession to prepare their candidates, they cannot upload these mocks online for any reason because they do not own such materials. Teachers engaged in this act have been identified and will be contacted by our legal team at the right time.
Our legal team, having understood the extent of the upload, informed Scribd, who also own SlideShare, about the issues. A formal DMCA notice was filed against about 10 persons who had illegally uploaded many of our 2024 BECE Mock papers on the said portals.
A DMCA notice is a formal request under the U.S. Digital Millennium Copyright Act to remove copyrighted material from online platforms. If ignored, the website could lose legal protections against copyright infringement lawsuits. Effects include:
- Individuals: Potential fines, legal action, and loss of online privileges.
- Websites: Removal of content, financial penalties, damage to reputation, and possible shutdowns if repeated violations occur.
At the time of filing this story, the Education-News Consult received a mail from Scribd and SlideShare indicating that mocks have been removed from their sites. Our checks confirmed the same.
We want to use this opportunity to advise all individuals, schools, and websites uploading our mocks on websites and other online databases without our approval to desist. Blogs and websites that have uploaded our new and old mock end-of-term examination questions in PDF and in text form from our mocks or from any of our sites should remove such content or face legal action from our outfit.
Education-News Consult and the Ghana Education News portals will continue to wage war against the violation of their copyrights to ensure their rights are fully protected and respected.
The Education-News Consult would at the right time, upload the resources to the data base of the team in the right manner to protect its rights and preserve its brand. No educator or person is allowed to uplaod any of our assessment materials online for any reason.
We want to use this opportunity to than the leadership and owners of Scribd and SlideShare for their responsive upadte and removal of the contents and the protection of our rights as a brand. We look forward to working with them to ensure only contents and mock papers sanctioned by the brand and uplaoded onto their sites are permitted.
