The Education-News Consult team has received several calls and chats about a purported new BECE 2024 results calculation method. The method that seems to put fear in people and also cause stress does not emanate from the GES nor WAEC per our checks. Per our reliable sources, the four core subjects and the two best from the remaining elective subjects are still being used. The Ghana Education Service has not officially released any press statement or update on the supposed new method.
Until the GES and WAEC confirm the New BECE 2024 results calculation method circulating, it remains false and fake news. If this was correct, WAEC would have used new remarks such as Excellent, Good, Fair, and Poor, as can be found in the new grading system circulating on social media.
In the results released by WAEC, its remarks were as follows:
Here’s the detailed breakdown:
Score (percentage) | Grade | Grade interpretation |
90–100 | 1 | Highest |
80–89 | 2 | Higher |
70–79 | 3 | High |
60–69 | 4 | High Average |
55–59 | 5 | Average |
50–54 | 6 | Low Average |
40–49 | 7 | Low |
35–39 | 8 | Lower |
0–34 | 9 | Lowest |
This remains official and not the information circulating on social media. Again, since the nice scale grading has not changed, the calculation of aggregates has also not changed.
