- Do we know how many schools 2024 BECE graduates will select?
- Will the number be reduced from 2024’s 11 schools to 6 in 2024?
While we all wait for the Ghana Education Service (GES) to release the detailed procedures for the 2024 BECE school selection, students and parents are asking, “How many schools are 2024 BECE graduates choosing?”
Information released earlier suggested that the 2024 school selection will start on August 23, 2024; however, the GES has not confirmed it yet.
In 2022, BECE graduates were required to choose six schools, one of which was a day school in category D. This did not help since over 150,000 students missed the automatic school placement and had to use the stressful self-placement system.
However, the GES wisely required students to choose the first six schools, and then select five additional schools using a second form. All 11 schools were selected, but over 100,000 students missed automatic placement and had to use the self-placement module.
With the 2024 BECE done and the school selection pending, the GES has yet to officially release the number of school BECE candidates that will be chosen for consideration.
How many schools will BECE graduates choose in 2024?
Students have not chosen less than six schools in the last three years. While the number of schools to choose from is important, the Education-News Consult believes that students and parents should be more concerned about how they make excellent and informed choices.
- Do not choose schools because all of your friends do so.
- Do not choose a school because you want to be there when you do not have the academic strength to compete for slots.
- Choose schools based on your performance, for instance, in your mocks, rather than your taste and preference.
- Selecting category A schools is not mandatory, as these schools are competitive due to their popularity and availability of necessary facilities. That in itself does not mean they are the best among the top WASSCE schools.

For instance, great schools in Category B perform better at the WASSCE than those with all the facilities in Category A.
Parents and students should get ready to select as many schools as possible that the GES will demand, but they must make good choices.
