2024 School Placement Likely Release Date, Types of School Placements

With WAEC releasing the 2024 BECE results, the Ghana Education Service is expected to announce the date for the release of the 2024 Computerised School Placement soon. The released school placements will be accessible on the cssps.gov.gh for students. When the school placements are released, it will help students and parents to know if their wards have been placed, if they have to use the self-placement module, or if they are not going to enjoy Free SHS at all.

Types of placement to expect when the 2024 school placements are out

When the GES/MoE releases the 2024 placements under the Computerised Schools Selection and Placement System (CSSPS), candidates will experience one of the following:.

Type 1: Automatic School Placement

These are students who passed the BECE and were successfully placed into one of the eleven (11) schools they chose. Such students, per the rules governing the school placement system, cannot change the school they have been placed in, whether they like it or not.

Type 2: Self Placement

With this, candidates who passed the exam but were not placed in any of the 11 schools will have to choose a new school from the self-placement module, choose accommodation and programs, and then get placed. Such students can keep changing the schools they choose until they visit the particular school to enroll. Once the enrolment starts, he or she cannot go back to the system to change the school.

Tyep 3: No Placement

Some students who obtained grade 9 in either mathematics or English or both will not be placed and cannot use the self-placement module just as students cought in any form of examination or practice whose results have been cancelled or their school’s entire result has been cancelled.

What is the expected release date for the 2024 BECE candidates school placement?

With the GES announcing the reopening of secondary schools on 30th October, the GES/MoE is expected to release the placements at most 7 days after the release of the BECE results.
This means the 2024 school placement should be released on or before October 27, 2024. The placement should be out between 23rd and 27th October, 2024.

Parents and BECE graduates must also note that the reopening date is not the same as the reporting date. This is done because the reporting date is the date from which SHS1 students and their parents will visit schools they have been placed in to complete their enrolment process, and the reporting date is the date from which all first-year students are expected to be in school to start their secondary education. The announced reopening date is usually the date from which parents of BECE graduates can start visiting the schools their wards have been placed in to start the SHS1 enrolment processes. The GES has announced the schools will reopen for the 2024/2025 academic year on 30th July, 2024.

What is the reporting date for SHS1 students?

In 2023, BECE graduates or SHS1 students reported to school on November 9, 2024. While GES is yet to release the placements and the date students will report for school, students are likely to report to school on or before 9th November, 2024.

So what if you did well in all other subjects but not maths or English.Will you still get a school?

  If you obtain grade 9 in Mathematics or English, no placement at all… Any grade from 1to 8 is ok but the higher the subject grae the more you may not get placed.

Please, is the enrolment code, alpha-numeric or numeric?
My niece has been placed but school authority require alpha-numeric enrolment code.
The enrolment code on my niece’s enrolment form is a six digit numeric code.

  If the placement print out you submitted is valid and from the placemement portal, every detail on it should be the same as what the school has so that they can match the codes.
