2024 BECE English Essay Question Projected With How To Answer It

2024 BECE essay question projected and how to answer it

In this post, you will read about the 2024 BECE English Essay question projected and how to answer it.

In an earlier publication, we projected that an informal letter has a higher chance of appearing in the 2024 BECE than a formal letter.

While 2024 BECE candidates prepare for their examination, we believe that the possibility of them answering an informal letter question in the exam is very high compared to a formal letter.

To help candidates revise based on our 2024 BECE Essay Question Projected, we have carefully written this article to touch on the important aspects of this letter form to help candidates, teachers, and schools.

Informal letters are also known as friendly letters. They are written to pen friends or pen pals, your peers, or those in the same age group as you.

Examples of such questions are indicated below.

  1. Write a letter to your friend in another school explaining three reasons why you want your parents to change your current school for you.
  2. You failed to honour your promise to attend your friend’s birthday. Write a letter to him explaining three reasons why you were absent.
  3. Your friend has asked you to advise him or her on the dangers of disobeying teachers. Write your letter.
  4. You have to travel abroad. Write a letter to your friend explaining how you feel about this journey and your expectations.

All the above questions are letters written to people in the same age group as you. They are informal letters. Note that if you see a similar question in the examination but there is nothing like a “letter” in the question, then it is not a letter. In that case, do not write a letter.

What are the basic features of informal letters?

Writer’s Address and Date: The writer’s address is the address of the writer. It is written on the right side of the page. You may indent it or block it. Master how to do that. Master one format for writing the address and keep using it for such letters. The date follows the writer’s address. If the address is blocked, the date is blocked, but if the address is indented, the date starts in line with the first letter of the first word in the address.

An example of a Blocked Address:

S.D.A Basic School,

Box LG 6,

Legon.

3rd May, 2024

Eg. for a slanted or indented addition:

S.D.A Basic School,

Box LG 6,

Legon.

3rd May, 2024

Salutation (Introductory Greeting)

Since this is a friendly letter, you can use salutations such as

Hi Kojo,

Hello Ama,

Note that the salutation is followed by a compulsory comma (,) and without it, you lose a mark.

Paragraph one: This should be a paragraph of pleasantries or greetings.

Eg. It’s a pleasure to write you once again after several months of silence. I am sure you are doing well. Well, I am also fine here, and everything is going well.

Another example.

I have again found it important to share my thoughts with you as a friend since I received your enchanting letter a few weeks ago. I was so happy to read that you have become the school prefect at your school. I hope everyone is fine, including Aunty Grace.

Body (Main Content)

This is usually a maximum of four paragraphs and a minimum of three paragraphs. In these paragraphs, you share with your friend the main reasons why you are writing the letter. This can be gotten from the question you are to answer.

Let us look at the first question given in this article.

Question: Write a letter to your friend in another school explaining three reasons why you want your parents to change your current school for you.

The body of this letter will contain the three reasons why you want your parents to change your school for you.

Do well to brainstorm the points before you write. For this question, some of the points to consider are.

  1. Poor academic performance or inadequate teaching.
  2. Abuse of learners by teachers.
  3. The distance from home to school.
  4. All the good teachers in the school have left.
  5. The academic standards at my current school are not as high as those at the school I want to transfer to, and I believe I will get a better education there.
  6. My current school lacks extracurricular activities that interest me, such as debate clubs and robotics, which are available at the new school.
  7. I have been facing bullying issues at my current school, and I believe a change of environment will provide me with a safer and more supportive atmosphere.
  8. The facilities at my current school, such as the library and science labs, are outdated and not well-maintained, while the new school has modern, well-equipped facilities.
  9. The new school has a more diverse student body and a culture of inclusivity, which I believe will help me broaden my perspectives and make new friends.
  10. The teachers at the new school are reputed to be more experienced and supportive, which will greatly enhance my learning experience and help me achieve my academic goals.

Any three of these points can be explained in the essay.
