2024 BECE Ends today, School and Programme Selection Next

The 2024 BECE ends today with the Arabic paper. However, that will usher schools and candidates into the next phase of the Junio High School exit exam.

A total of 570,461 candidates from basic schools and private candidates sat the examination. Out of this number, 569,095 school candidates made up of 282,648 males and 386,447 females wrote the examination.

2024 School and Programme Selection Phase

When will the 2024 School and Programme Selection start?

The Director-General of the Ghana Education Service, in his goodwill message to candidates before the start of the BECE on July 8th July, hinted that the school selection process would commence right after the 2024 BECE ends on July 15th, 2024.

We advise parents to actively participate in this process and assist their students in making well-informed school selection decisions that go beyond mere taste and preferences.

The selection process for schools and programmes begins immediately following the exam. The Ghana Education Service will announce the date for commencement.

We anticipate that this will begin on Monday, July 22, 2024, with a series of sensitization programmes on TV, radio, print media, and online, among others.

With the 2024 batch starting the new Free SHS, we expect significant changes to the school and study program choices.

In 2023, candidates could select up to 11 senior high schools from categories A to D.

Overall, there will only be 36 subjects to study in 2024, although these categories may not change.

When selecting schools, it’s important to avoid selecting the same ones as others.

Do not choose study programs without considering your future dream career and talents.

Parents should also understand the processes and consequences of imposing study programmes on their children.

This year, we expect the first batch of learners in the new Free SHS program to enter SHS.

In their first year of senior high school, they should also continue studying the common core subjects.

In the coming weeks, schools, learners, and parents will get to know the new school selection processes outlined by the Ministry of Education and the Ghana Education Service.
