The West African Examination Council has responded to calls for the release of the pending 2024 BECE Creative Arts and Design results. John Kapi, the Head of Public Relations at the West African Examination Council (WAEC), clarified to TV3 during the 23rd October mid-day news, which Education-News Consult was monitoring, that WAEC was working around the clock to release the results.

Mr. John Kapi indicated thatm students who check their results from tomorrow 24th October should be able to see all their results.
What are the issues that led to the pending results for CAD?
He stated that every effort has been made to ensure all candidates get their results and every mark they deserve. According to him, WAEC’s position resulted in a delay in the release of the results for the CAD.
When asked about the extent of this particular challenge, Mr. John Kapi revealed that three regions were still awaiting the completion of script marking for the 2024 BECE results. He added that WAEC recognized wide-spread disparities in the scores obtained by candidates in the Creative Arts and Design subject.
He revealed that there were difficulties encountered during the grading of the CAD subject, and the council has completed 70% of the pending results. He clarified that the STANINE grading system by WAEC necessitates the receipt of candidate scores before fair grading can occur.
“Because of the STANINE grading system, if you decide to grade some of them without the others, it is possible that at the end of the day you will be cheating somebody and giving them a lower grade than they deserve,” he said.
Mr. Kapi clarified that WAEC aims to gather all examiners’ results collectively before releasing the results, ensuring that each individual receives the grade they merit.
Mr. Kapi reiterated that the issue with the pending CAD result was not a marking issue at this time, but rather a matter of matching the scripts and marks received for the various components of the subject.

He confirmed that WAEC had completed about 70% of the job. “As of now, we’ve completed 70% of the task, and I anticipate that by the end of today, we’ll be able to complete the remaining 30%. After that, I’m confident that everyone who will be reviewing their results starting tomorrow will receive their complete results.” He stated.
Mr. Kapi asserts that there is no legal restriction on WAEC’s ability to release some results while focusing on those still pending completion. “As far as the same subjects are ready, you are at liberty to release them, and then you hold on to a particular one. There is no definitive guideline for this.
In his view, a lot of people may be right, but he was quick to add that for some areas where marking of the subject was done, WAEC did not have problems, but in order to grade them equally and fairly, you need to get the full compoenent before you do the grading. According to him, WAEC anticipated that it was going to release the Creative Arts and Design Resources today, but it could not do so.
He assured me that WAEC will compile the results and release all the results for the 2024 BECE.
