The Ghana Education Service (GES) has released the official full 2024-2025 Academic Calendar for Basic and Second Cycle Schools. Education-News Consult sighted a press release that contained this information.

While the GES revealed that the 2023-2024 academic year for SHS1 and SHS2 students concludes on October 28, 2024, it also mandated the promotion of these students to their subsequent classes, namely SHS2 and SHS3. The students will not go on vacation but will start their first semester of the 2024–2025 academic year on October 30, 2024.

The GES also released a detailed calendar for all pretertiary schools from KG to SHS3. Below are the details of the calendar.

2024-2025 Academic Calendar for KG/Primary and JHS

KG/Primary and JHS students are in Term 1 of the 2024-2025 academic year.

Schools reopen on September 10, 2024, while term one’s vacation date is December 19. The term one vacation starts on 20^th December and ends on 7^th January. Learners will be in school for 14 weeks, according to the GES.

Term 2 of the 2024-2025 academic year for KG/Primary and JHS starts on 8^th January and ends on April 17^th, 2024. The schools start their second term vacation on 18^th April until 5^th May 2025.

The third term starts on 6^th May 2025 and ends in July 2025. Schools will be in session for 12 weeks.

According to the GES, the WAEC will administer the 2025 BECE in July 2025. Pupils in KG/Primary and JHS will attend school for a total of 40 weeks during the 2024-2025 academic year.

BASIC SCHOOLS CALENDAR

For second-cycle schools, the GES provided two different calendars for single-track and double-track schools (transitional schools/calendar).

2024-2025 Single Track Schools Academic Calendar

SHS1-SHS3 in Single-Track Schools

Semester 1 starts on 30^th October, 2024, and ends on March 5th, 2025. The semester break starts from 6^th March to 19^th March 2025.

The second semester starts on 30^th March and ends on 29^th August 2025.

However, students will take a break from December 5th to 9th, 2024, to allow teachers and eligible students to participate in the December 7th elections. They will also break on 20^th December 2024 for the Christmas season and return to school on 2^nd January, 2025.

2024-2025 Transitional Academic Calendar students in Double Track SHSs

According to the GES timetable, SHS1 students will begin term 1 on 30th October 2024 and leave on 7th February 2025. However, they will have a brief midterm break from 5th to 9th December, allowing eligible students to participate in the 2024 December elections. They will also have a Christmas break from December 20th to December 2nd and report to school to continue their first term of the 2024-2025 academic year. The vacation for the students starts from 8^th February to 25^th May 2025.

The second term commences from 26th May to 25th July 2025, with a vacation period from 26th July to 30th August 2025.

Term 3 for SHS1 students will start from 31^st August 2025 to 17^th October 2025 to bring year one to an end.
