The West African Examination Council (WAEC) has released the results of the 2024 BECE examination, which took place from 8th to 15th July 2024. The released result also came with worrying data on cheating schools and candidates whose results have been cancelled or withheld pending WAEC’s investigations and conlusions.
This implies that you cannot access the withheld results for the affected schools and candidates on the WAEC result portal until the investigations’ conclusions are known.
WAEC released a date indicating that 569,236 students took the examination, with 282,703 males and 286,533 females.
WAEC’s worrying data on cheating schools and candidates in 2024
The council held its 35th meeting after concluding investigations into multiple instances of irregularities found during the script examination and marking process.
According to the data released by WAEC, 451 school candidates were involved in BECE cheating in 2024, while 7 private candidates were also involved.
The total number of schools involved in the withholding of their entire results amounts to 149.
(1) Cancellation of Subject Results of 377 school candidates and 3 private candidates who entered the exam hall with foreign materials, namely, prepared notes, text books, and printed materials, into the examination hall or colluding with other candidates;
(2) Cancellation of the entire results of 41 school candidates and 1 private candidate who engaged in cheating, such as candidates who were in possession of mobile phones in the examination hall;

The subject results of 33 school candidates and 3 private candidates have been withheld due to various suspected offences;
(4) The complete results from approximately 149 schools were withheld due to a variety of suspected offenses and irregularities.
