The Ghana Education Service has released the Senior High School (SHS) 2024-2025 academic calendar; however, GES is yet to release the detailed timetable and important dates for Semesters 1 and 2 for SHS students and teachers.
Below are the important dates for Semester 1 of SHS 2024-2025 academic year calendar.
School reopens on 30th October 2024 for all students in SHS1, SHS2, and SHS3 in single-track and transitional schools.
Schools break on Friday, October 5th, 2024, to allow teachers and students who are registered voters to participate in the 2024 election on December 7th.
We expect students to return to school on Monday, 9th December 2024, for semester 1 of the 2024-22025 academic year. We expect schools to vacate on Friday, 20th December 2024.
After the Christmas break on January 8, 2025, and following the swearing-in of the new government on January 7, 2025, students should return to school.
Below is a table detailing the dates. We are looking forward to GES releasing the detailed academic calendar for both basic schools and second-cycle schools before the end of 2024.

In a related development, the GES has announced that all SHS1 students who sat the 2024 BECE will be starting their secondary education on 30th October 2024.
It added that students in SHS1 and SHS2 will vacate and end the 2023-2024 academic year on 28th October, then start their 2024-2025 academic year on 30th October 2024.
